16-year-old activist Martinez, Xiuhtezcatl began a petition that asks the presidential candidates of 2016 to commit to end fossil fuel use. Martinez has gathered more than 100,000 signatures that seek to end fossil fuel use within the next decade. The teenager is creating a movement for those under the age of eighteen so that they can voice their opinion. It is unfortunate that children suffer the consequences of the decisions made by adults.

Closer Look at 16-Year-Old Activist Martinez

The 16-year-old activist, Martinez, recognizes the importance of the climate agreement in Paris; however, disagrees that simply requiring the U.S. to transition to a zero carbon energy economy by 2050 is not enough. He seeks to enforce the next president to end the use of fossil fuels within the next ten years. Martinez has addressed climate change previously as a child and has gone to serve as a youth director at Earth Guardians. He has also taken action against the Obama administration for not executing a greater effort towards fighting climate change.

The teenager faces a tough battle when it comes to enforcing presidential candidates to stop the use of fossil fuels. Donald Trump believes climate change is nothing, but a hoax. If you look around, you will find several identifiers of climate change.

Regardless, whomever takes place in the presidential election, there is only so much they can do. It is simply up to lawmakers to determine which bills should pass. Despite the difficult obstacle, the 16-year-old activist is leading the movement to end fossil fuel use for those who are not able to vote.

You can also join the movement to support the cause by signing the petition here. It’s exciting to see the youth be so passionate about the planet we all share. The youth who take matters into their own hands to actually put an end to climate change, they are powerful.
