Readington Middle School is teaching their sixth grade students about solar power in an Innovation and Design class. As part of the curriculum, students are learning how renewable resources are environmentally friendly and the benefits of solar energy as an alternative energy source.
The kids are assigned to build a solar car that captures sun rays and transfers the harnessed electricity to mechanical energy. They use solar panels, an empty soda can, balsa wood, motors, batteries, and gears to build these model solar cars. The students tested their cars on the school’s outdoor basketball court and witnessed the power of the sun.
The Innovation and Design class aims to encourage kids with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning.
