The Elf: Solar & Pedal-Powered Hybrid
At Titan Solar Construction we are emphatic about the many positive societal and environmental effects of solar power. We love the gadgets and the amazingly cool technology that continues to evolve on a grand scale. There are many Eco-Friendly initiatives happening around the globe and as Earth Day approaches, we’d like to share our passion and appreciation for these amazing folks and their brilliant concepts.
According to Alternative Energy news, the ELF is Perhaps the “most efficient vehicle on the planet”. It is a solar and pedal-powered hybrid tricycle hand-built in the United States by Organic Transit. According to their website it gets the equivalent of 1800 miles per gallon! It is legally considered a bicycle, so it can be used on bike paths, parks and sidewalks and requires no gas, license, registration or insurance. How is that for true energy independence?
The solar-charged electric motor assists your pedaling with a boost of power whenever you need it. The battery has a range of 16 miles with no pedaling, and 30 miles without. In direct sunlight it can be completely recharged in about 8 hours.
It’s nifty, it’s cool, and it highlights solar power’s promise of a cleaner and brighter tomorrow. If widely adopted, imagine the impact it would have on New Delhi, India-the most air polluted city in the world or any city near you?
